Breaking News on the Stop-the-Toll Campaign
AB 748 Moves to Senate Appropriations and Needs Your Support!
On July 12, the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee, Chaired by Senator Tom Torlakson, approved AB 748, which would prevent bicycle and pedestrian tolls on all bridges, highways and roadways in the State of California. The bill passed out of the Committee by a vote of 8 to 4. The next stop for AB 748 is the Senate Appropriations Committee which is chaired by Senator Carole Migden (who represents Marin and San Francisco). If the bill passes out of Appropriations, it will go to the Senate floor, and then to the Governor.
AB 748 is sponsored by the California Bicycle Coalition and authored by Assembly member Lois Wolk (Davis), and co-sponsored by Assemblymember Joe Nation.
Please contact Senator Migden, chair of the Appropriations Committee, to show your support for AB748. Contact Senator Migden at her fax: 916-445-4722 .
Sample letter:
Dear Senator Migden:
I strongly support Assembly Bill 748 and any efforts to prohibit bicycle tolls on all public bridges and roadways.
Walking and bicycling reduce traffic congestion, vehicle emissions, and oil dependency. In addition, bicycling and walking provide the kind of physical activity necessary to fight the growth in obesity, diabetes, and asthma.
AB 748 will encourage Californians to take advantage of the most sustainable and healthy modes of transportation possible, and ensure that they are not penalized for cutting down on traffic and harmful pollution.
Please support AB 748 and a healthier, safer California.
Sincerely,
