Regional Measure 2 Approved by Voters
Money will complete funding for Cal Park Hill Tunnel
MARCH 2004 - The Marin County Bicycle Coalition joins other transportation advocates from around the Bay Area in celebrating the passage of Regional Measure 2, which will provide approximately $125 million/year to fund transportation projects that will relieve congestion on State toll bridges. The funding will come from a $1 toll increase on State toll bridges (but not the Golden Gate Bridge.) These bridge tolls will be raised from $2 to $3 in July 2004.
Transportation projects in Marin County will receive a total of $103 million from Regional Measure 2. Funding will go towards: Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit, Golden Gate Transit Bus Service between San Rafael and Richmond, and the Greenbrae Intermodal Project (which includes Cal Park Hill Tunnel and the Central Marin Ferry Connection Project.) Regional Measure 2 also funds a first-ever Safe Routes to Transit project, providing $20 million for building safer bicycle and pedestrian access and bike parking at transit hubs.
Deb Hubsmith, MCBC executive director says, "Regional Measure 2 will provide the light at the end of the Cal Park Hill Tunnel. Thank you to all MCBC members who supported this important transportation funding mechanism."
