Off-road Program
Mission, Goals, Outcomes
Approved by the Off-Road Committee on March 17, 2012
Mission:
To build and implement an Off-Road Program that encourages safe and civil behavior among all trail users, promotes trail and environmental stewardship, and increases trail access for mountain bike riders in Marin County.
Goals:
- Reduce trail user conflicts and improve trail etiquette education for riders and other trail users.
- Promote trail and environmental stewardship on public and private lands where trails exist or are planned for construction.
- Participate in public lands trail and road planning processes, in cooperation with land managers and other community groups, to create or open more trail opportunities for mountain bikers.
- Work with government agencies to identify and pursue funding for increased recreational trail use by bicyclists.
- Work to create or open more trails that serve as transportation connectors to complete Marin's bicycle network.
Outcomes (Definition of Success):
- All trail users participate in a more cooperative, respectful, friendly and safe environment on Marin’s fire roads and trails.
- Trail users cooperate in enforcing and encouraging appropriate behavior on trails.
- Alongside other trail users, mountain bikers participate in trail maintenance and environmental stewardship activities, and help remove and prevent rogue trails.
- Marin’s school mountain bike team members are recognized as ambassadors of trail etiquette and trail stewardship.
- More singletrack trails are available to mountain bikers in Marin County.
- Increased MCBC membership and funding.
