Let’s be Part of the Solution
2009 Share the Road Check Points
Marin County Law enforcement agencies hosted Check Points in Marin for the seventh straight year in 2009! Over 3,200 road users including 2,327 motorists and 875 cyclists received Let’s Be Part of the Solution safely flyers as they passed though checkpoints hosted in Sausalito, Fairfax, Novato, San Anselmo, Mill Valley and Belvedere. The flyer contains California Vehicle Code information and MCBC's Codes of Conduct for bicyclists and motorists to foster respect for each other and to increase safety.
This year MCBC welcomed the opportunity to host Checkpoints with the Mill Valley and Belvedere Police Departments for the first time! Belvedere Traffic Safety Officer Chris Pool - “Share the Road educational information will go a long way in creating a friendlier and cooperative road user community in Belvedere”.
The Checkpoints are set up in partnership with Marin County Law Enforcement and the California Highway Patrol to offer education literature to community members and visitors in a friendly atmosphere, sharing information about the many ways all road users can safely and consciously share the roads in Marin County.
Motorists and cyclists also received the new Share the Road stickers. The sticker slogans were selected to encourage all road users to acknowledge each other and to do more than just share the road. As our ever going population of licensed drivers are also cyclists, MCBC continues to provide educational information to keep our roads and paths safe and fun for all.

Cyclists and walkers also received free blinky lights at our seven Share the Road Checkpoint held from June to October in 2009. The safety lights were coveted by cyclists, pedestrians and the occasional pet to provide more visibility at night along the road and paths.
