Frances has a long history of involvement in the cycling community. She became a committed bicycle commuter in college. After graduating she returned to her native home of Washington, DC, and took-up road riding. Discovering the joys of mountain biking would have to wait until 1992, when she moved to the Bay Area. Then, enticed by their cool Marin County cycling map, Frances joined the MCBC in 2000, at the Fairfax Festival. Needless to say, she loves the cycling life in Marin!

Frances' past professions include Outreach Coordinator for MCBC (2003-04), where she helped grow the organization's membership. She has also worked for several years in the culinary arts as a chef and caterer. She spent seven years in San Francisco working at the International Diplomacy Council (IDC). While at IDC, she administered a program for the State Department, developing and maintaining the IDC's membership and resource database.

After retiring from the IDC to become a full-time mother, she planned to eventually re-enter the workforce focusing on transportation and the environment; two areas where she surmised the United States sorely needed attention. Her involvement grew with several community boards and committees in Marin County, including the Golden Gate Bridge District's Ferry Passenger Advisory Committee. She presently volunteers as a Safe Routes Team Leader for her son's school, Sun Valley Elementary, in San Rafael.

Frances currently teaches the Safe Routes to School curriculum throughout Marin's public and private primary schools. She also conducts Share the Road presentations and Bike Commuting workshops for adults through the MCBC.

Her favorite pastimes include cycling (especially with her son, Teddy), sailing, swimming, entertaining and partner dancing.
