Kirk Knauer is the 2008 Marin Bike Commuter of the Year
Kirk Knauer has been commuting year-round from Mill Valley to San Francisco for about nine years. Husband and father of three, Kirk works for Berlitz International WW Office, and he also competes in 4-5 triathlons a year. “This is truly a bike commuter's paradise – I can't think of a place on earth, let alone a major city, that even comes close.”
Kirk’s son, Ben, nominated his dad because “He says it keeps him healthy, wealthy and wise. I think he does it so he can spend more time doing things with us, what we want to do, during the weekend. I've heard him say that the weekend is for him to rest and to be with us. We're both right. My dad gets his exercise, saves lots of money on gas, tolls and parking.... and those two things alone seem wise! Most importantly, I know that my dad is there to do things with me, my brother and sister and not out biking, unless it's with us, on Saturday and Sunday.”
Kirk will be honored at the Bike to Work Day end-of-day party from 4-6 PM at Mike’s Bikes of Sausalito on May 15.
