TEAM BIKE CHALLENGE

Marin is looking for 30 teams – sign up today!

Team Bike ChallengeOn Thursday, May 15, 2008, tens of thousands of residents from all corners of the Bay Area will put aside their car keys, don their helmets and bike to work. They will be seen on two wheels, tandems and hybrids. Won’t you join the challenge?

The Team Bike Challenge kicks off May 1, 2008. Team Bike Challenge encourages bicycle commuters to grab their friends, colleagues and neighbors to form teams and get ready to pedal everywhere during the month of May. Teams score points for each day any team member rides. Team members do not have to ride together. Team members earn points by riding to work, for errands, to school, to appointments or to any destination. (Leisurely recreational rides do not count toward points.) The team with the most points at the end of the month wins a grand prize!

Here’s how the Team Bike Challenge works:

  • Form a team of 2-5 people. Your team must have at least one Novice rider.
  • Sign up your team at 511.org and get a personalized team calendar to track your progress.
  • Ride your bike to earn points and win prizes!

2007 Team Bike Challenge winnersWho’s on your team?
Team members earn different points depending on their level of riding:

  • Novice – A new or infrequent rider who uses his/her bike two times or less per month. (Each team must have at least one Novice rider) 5 points each day pedaled
  • BigWheel – A manager, Director, CEO, journalist, or elected official. (Limit one Big Wheel per team) 4 points each day pedaled
  • Weekend Warrior – A weekend rider who takes leisure rides and/or who participates in organized rides or races, but doesn’t commute by bike. 3 points each day pedaled
  • Lifestyle Rider – A seasoned and skilled rider who rides his or her bike frequently (two or more times a week) for transportation. The Lifestyle Rider is the example of one who truly believes that everyday is a Bike to Work Day. In fact, this person is so content on his or her two wheels that s/he just wants to see other folks out there enjoying the benefits of cycling! The Lifestyle rider is a motivator and an inspiration for his or her friends to join a team and pedal to win. 2 points each day pedaled
