It's that time again - time for the Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) to hold its Sixth Annual Big Bike Bash! The Big Bike Bash is MCBC's thank you to its members and to the larger community. The event on Saturday, November 22, features a dynamic program including nationally known guest speakers, live music, dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and raffle. It's become the social event of the year amongst Marin's bicycling enthusiasts, and this year hundreds of guests are expected to attend.
Don't be late for the 6-10 pm party at Marin's newest gathering space: the Mill Valley Community Center at 180 Camino Alto, Mill Valley. The Big Bike Bash is free to MCBC members, and others can join at the door for $20. The evening will begin with the opportunity to socialize with friends, shop the silent auction, and graze the buffet dinner offerings. All this will be accompanied by jazz music from The Biker Boys band, featuring well-known Bay Area musicians Mika Scott, Tom Finch and Dan Duffin.
An hour-long program will focus on the theme of Planning for Our Future: Building a Healthy, Sustainable and Affordable Transportation System. Presentations by Marin County Supervisor Susan Adams (who has recently returned from an inspiring transportation-themed trip to the Netherlands), bike luminary Joe Breeze (who will share his international and technological bicycle insights), and a Safe Routes to Schools junior high school perspective, are expected to enthrall and motivate the rest of us visionaries into action! MCBC Executive Director Deb Hubsmith and Board President Kim Baenisch will host the program.
A set of dance music will follow the program while our raffle tickets continue to be sold. Don't forget to purchase yours! Three raffle prizes have been generously donated to MCBC this year: Grand Prize: Marin Rift Zone mountain bicycle ($1,700 value); Second Prize: Breezer Villager transportation bicycle ($669 value); Third Prize: Abalone Inn of Inverness midweek accommodations ($110 value). Click here to view the raffle prizes. Tickets are being sold in advance of the Big Bike Bash through MCBC members, as well as at the Marin Coffee Roasters shops in Fairfax and San Anselmo, where the Marin Rift Zone bicycle is on display.
Many volunteer hours go into making the Big Bike Bash a success, and MCBC has positions to suit just about any volunteer's desires: Bar Pohbahs, Kitchen and Catering Kingpins, Table and Décor Conductors, Raffle Mavens, Silent Auction and Marketplace Moguls, Security and Bike Parking Potentates, and Breakdown and Clean-Up Colonels. Please contact MCBC Outreach Coordinator, Frances Barbour Hayden at (415) 456-3469 x 2# or frances@marinbike.org to sign up for a volunteer slot. Free entry, food, and drinks are provided for all event volunteers - this is a schmoozing opportunity you won't want to miss!
Silent Auction donations from MCBC members and local merchants are also being sought. This is a great way to advertise your own products and services to the MCBC membership! Soliciting donations from businesses that you visit personally is another way to donate. For instructions on how to ask your favorite businesses for donations, click here. Please contact Big Bike Bash Coordinator Kim Baenisch for details at (415) 456-2977 or kim@marinbike.org.
We look forward to seeing you at the Bash, for another great end-of-year celebration!!
