Send a Message to Congress!
To Purchase the Gallagher Ranch
and Extend the East-West Greenway
To be a 13 mile Multi-Use Trail
For the past 15 years, the Gallagher Family and the National Park Service have been negotiating the purchase of the 330 acre Gallagher Ranch, which lies between Tocaloma and Point Reyes Station in West Marin.
Over the past two years, the MCBC has hosted three bicycle rides on the Gallagher Ranch and the National Parks Service lands. Over 350 cyclists have been able to experience the stunning beauty of this land, which contains redwood trees , a creek that is crucial salmon habitat, and a former railroad right-of-way which could be converted immediately to be a multi-use trail for hikers, cyclists and equestrians.
Now it's time to send a message to Congress that the public wants this land to be purchased as public open space. It's time for the public to weigh-in and let our elected officials know that this site is important to the community!

Re: Purchase of Gallagher Ranch in Marin County, CA for NPS Land
Dear Congresswoman or Senator _________:
I am writing to encourage you to take a leadership role in facilitating the purchase of the Gallagher Ranch by the National Park Service.
The Gallagher Ranch, located in West Marin, is within the boundaries of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The Ranch is located between two pieces of Park Service property that could be opened up to the public if the Gallagher Ranch is acquired.
The 330 acre Gallagher Ranch is a uniquely situated property which contains redwood trees, a creek that is crucial salmon habitat, and a former railroad right-of-way which could be converted immediately to be a multi-use trail for hikers, cyclists and equestrians. This rail-trail would directly connect with eight miles of existing pathway which runs through Samuel P. Taylor State Park, thus extending this pathway to be 13 miles in length. This path would provide a safe cycling alternative to the narrow windy roads of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Point Reyes Petaluma Road.
Include something personal here about your experiences or about the value of rail trails. It is best to personalize your entire letter as much as possible.
The conversion of the Gallagher Ranch to National Park Service lands would be an incredible asset to the Parks Service, the community, and visitors. Thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
