MCBC seeks new Bike Parking Coordinator
The Marin County Bicycle Coalition’s fabulously popular Valet Bike Parking program is losing its long-standing Coordinator at the end of 2008. We are looking now for a part-time Bike Parking Coordinator to fill his shoes and be trained during the 2008 event season to maintain our polished service and state-of-the-art equipment.
Depending on experience, the Bike Parking Coordinator will be paid $15-$17/hour as either an employee or contractor, and will oversee bike parking at up to 20 event days. Event days can typically require 10-12 hours. Tow vehicle trailer insurance and mileage costs will be reimbursed by MCBC.
Since we began our service in 1999, MCBC has provided bicycle parking at dozens of Marin County events each year, offering an alternative to congestion and pollution-inducing vehicular travel. At last September’s three-day Sausalito Art Festival, MCBC parked 1400 bicycles. During 2007, MCBC provided bike parking at 22 events, parking 3,400 bicycles just at the 13 events where we kept count!
The Coordinator fills a valuable public service and outreach role for MCBC, and the position is a very fun and social opportunity. The main responsibilities include: bike parking events coordination; volunteer recruitment and training; marketing and community outreach; equipment transport, installation and maintenance. We are happy to consider a division of these roles between two people who would work closely together.

- Be present at events to interact with volunteers and community members
- Transport of bike parking equipment trailer to and from event locations

- Equipment maintenance, repairs and purchases
- Event data reporting to MCBC office
Skills Required
- Ability to independently coordinate, train and inspire a staff of volunteers
- Excellent follow-through on assigned responsibilities
- A self-starter with organizational skills
- Professional written and verbal skills
- Outgoing, pleasant attitude and a sense of humor
- Valid CA driver license
- Vehicle owner with trailer hitch for towing equipment trailer
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment for set-up/break-down
- Desire to clean, maintain and repair equipment
- A love of bicycling!
