Marin County Bicycle Coalition is Hiring a Bike Parking Coordinator -- Part-time Position

Marin County Bicycle Coalition

The Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) is recognized as a national leader in bicycle advocacy, and plays a critical role in shaping Marin County transportation policies and projects.  MCBC is a non-profit organization that was established in 1998 to promote safe bicycling for everyday transportation and recreation. MCBC has 20 full-time and part-time staff, and its office is located in Fairfax, California.  More information about the MCBC can be found at www.marinbike.org

Summary of Position

The Marin County Bicycle Coalition’s fabulously popular Valet Bike Parking program needs a new Coordinator.  We are looking for a part-time Bike Parking Coordinator to train for the 2012 event season to maintain our efficient service and state-of-the-art equipment.  Since we began our service in 1999, MCBC has provided bicycle parking at dozens of Marin County events each year, offering an alternative to congestion and vehicular travel. Bicycle parking encourages non-polluting transportation and safeguards bikes in one easy to access location.

The Bike Parking Coordinator oversees bike parking at 20+ events throughout the season (March – November). The community events occur mainly on the weekends. Our busiest bike parking events include the two-day Fairfax Festival, three-day Sausalito Art Festival, and Biketoberfest.

Large event days can require 10-12 hours per day, while bike rack rentals can take only an hour or two at a time. MCBC’s bike parking equipment in stored in Fairfax and requires towing to each location.

The Bike Parking Coordinator fills a valuable public service and outreach role for MCBC, and the position is a very fun and social opportunity.  The main responsibilities include: bike parking event logistics and coordination; volunteer recruitment, training and oversight; equipment transport, installation and maintenance.

MCBC aims to fill the position by the end of February 2012. Training will be provided.
