Accomplishments
Formed in 1998 by local cyclists, the MCBC has accomplished a lot, thanks to the financial support of our membership, including:
- Designation of Marin County as a federal Nonmotorized Transportation Pilot Program with $25 million in funding.
- Recipient of the 2009 Marin Economic Commission's award for Community Leadership & Service
- MCBC has helped move many projects to completion such as:
- Cal Park Hill Tunnel linking Larkspur with San Rafael
- Lincoln Hill multiuse path and tunnel at Puerto Suello Hill in San Rafael
- Sharrows (shared lane stencils) installed on bike routes in San Rafael and San Anselmo
- Countywide bicycle route guide signs
- Bike lanes on Los Ranchitos and Lucas Valley Roads (San Rafael), Center Blvd. (Fairfax), Butterfield Road (San Anselmo), College Ave (Kentfield), and Bridgeway in Sausalito
- New pavement and wider shoulders on Whites Hill and around Nicasio Reservoir
- Sandra Marker Trail paving in Larkspur and Corte Madera
- Inkwells Bridge construction in West Marin for bike/ped access to the Cross Marin Trail
- 650 new bike parking spaces in cities and towns in 2009

- Assisted with passing federal legislation to secure $612 million nationwide for Safe Routes to Schools
- Helped pass Measure A, the Marin Traffic Relief and Better Transportation Act which includes a Complete Streets policy
- Helped pass the SMART ballot measure for a 70-mile Rail-with-Trail project in Marin and Sonoma, projected to start running in 2014
- Spurred Marin County into conducting annual bike/ped counts, showing that Marin’s weekday cyclists increased 118% from 1999 to 2009
- Designation of Marin as a national model for Safe Routes to Schools
- Share the Road program
- Developed Toolkit for NHTSA as a national Share the Road resource
- Offer ongoing free Basic Street Skills classes
- Offer community-focused Riding With Youth workshops
- Conducted Checkpoints with law enforcement for motorists and cyclists

- A new Bicycle Coordinator position for the County of Marin
