1. Lucas Valley Road bike lanes improved
More width for more comfortable cycling
The Marin County Department of Public Works recently restriped portions of Lucas Valley Road (north of San Rafael) with new and improved bike lanes. The new lanes are considerably wider in some areas, providing increased safety and comfort. This heavily-traveled corridor is used by local residents, school students, and recreational riders. The new lanes are a welcome improvement. MCBC's thanks go out to the County of Marin for their continued efforts to expand and improve the non-motorized system within the County.

Volunteer at Feb. 7 fundraiser
MCBC’s Winter 2010 Pedal Press newsletter is now online. Click here to download a copy.
The Winter issue's cover features an interview with three-time Tour of California winner Levi Leipheimer, and the opening of the new state-of-the-art Class II bike lanes on Los Ranchitos Road.
This issue's contest offers a chance to win a Thomson seatpost or stem on page 15. Answer three questions (answers are all in the Pedal Press), and enter a drawing to win a seatpost or stem for your road or mountain bike worth $99.
As always, the online Pedal Press includes full color graphics and active links for navigation and more information.
Hard copy Pedal Presses are available at all local bike shops and other businesses that regularly stock our publication. Recipients for whom we do not have an email address will continue to receive a mailed copy.
4. Support funding of the Bay Bridge bike/ped/maintenance “Safety Path”
Attend the hearing on January 27, or send a letter
Robert Raburn of the East Bay Bicycle Coalition writes:
All Bay Area riders,
A tremendous opportunity to open the flood gates to bicycling across the Bay Bridge will be voted on Wednesday, January 27, 10 AM, by the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA). The goal is full funding of the West Span pedestrian-bicycle-maintenance "Safety Path." This campaign is supported by the Bay Area Bicycle Coalition including EBBC, MCBC, SFBC, SVBC, and others around the region.
We ask you to:
- Send a letter
- Attend the hearing
Click here to quickly send a letter of support to your BATA representatives.

Facebook? Click here to join the event page for the hearing and please invite your friends.
Please attend the hearing if at all possible. Wednesday, January 27, 10 AM, MetroCenter Auditorium, 101 Eighth St, Oakland (opposite Lake Merritt BART). This is a purely political decision, so your presence makes a difference.
And please, forward this to all your contacts who support active transportation; we do not know when we will get another opportunity of this kind, leaving the nearly half-built Alexander Zuckermann pathway in jeopardy of not realizing its goal.
All the way across the bay!

This is a mandatory class for volunteers, and highly recommended for anyone wanting to get the most from their experience here. Free for members/volunteers, $10 suggested donation for all others (none turned away for lack of funds!).
