Bike To Work Week, May 10-16
Take the Healthy Commute

Bike to Work - Bike to School - Bike to Transit
Bike to Shop - Bike for Fun - Bike to These Events!

The Marin County Bicycle Coalition is encouraging everyone to take the healthy commute during the week of May 12-16, joining thousands of Bay Area commuters as they bike to work, to school, or to transit. When you register for Bike to Work Day at www.511.org, you'll be eligible to win great prizes, including a $750 gift certificate to a local bike shop.

Bike to Work Day is an annual celebration of bicycling as an alternative to driving. The event is a collaborative effort of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), RIDES for Bay Area Commuters, local bicycle coalitions and hundreds of volunteers. Shimano American Corporation is also providing media outreach support.

Deb Hubsmith, executive director of the Marin County Bicycle Coalition says, "Biking to work is a healthy way to commute. If you leave the car at home and use your bike, you're doing something good for yourself and the planet. Even biking on just one day makes a difference. We're encouraging everyone to give bicycling a try."

In Marin County, a week-long series of local events is planned during to Bike to Work Week. On the official "Bike to Work Day," Thursday May 15, the Marin County Bicycle Coalition will have nearly 20 Energizer Stations set-up (see locations below) along local commute routes to offer refreshments and encouragement to bicyclists on the morning of Bike to Work Day.

If you can't bike all the way to work, bike to transit. Most Bay Area transit carriers have bike facilities, such as lockers or bike racks. For additional details about Bike to Work Day go to www.511.org and www.marinbike.org or call 511.
