FREE Valet Bicycle Parking
at the 2007 Fairfax Festival

Provided by the Marin County Bicycle Coalition

Bikes at Fairfax FestivalThe Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) will be offering free valet bicycle parking at the Fairfax Festival again this year (June 9 and 10). Bicycle parking will be located next to Bookbeat on Bolinas Avenue. The MCBC has been providing this service at the festival every year since the Coalition was founded in 1998.

Kim Baenisch, MCBC Executive Director says, “The pedestrian-oriented Fairfax Festival is a perfect example of a local event to ride your bike to. Leave your car at home to avoid the crowd hassles and cruise over to the music, art and food on your two-wheels where MCBC will watch your bike while you go have fun.”

The Fairfax Festival needs volunteers to staff the valet bike parking service. Various volunteer shifts begin with set up at 9 AM and end with clean up at approximately 6:30 PM both days. Free lunch is provided to all bike parking volunteers. Contact MCBC member Chris Lang at 415-457-8687 to assist with festival bike parking and get a front row seat for the best people watching this summer!

Bike Parking at Fairfax FestivalThe MCBC’s valet bike parking proves to be ever popular – we will be providing valet bike parking at 22+ local events this year – with the Mountain Play and Tiburon’s ‘Friday Nights on Main’ receiving our service for multiple weeks in a row! The bike parking service allows event participants to avoid traffic congestion and the typical search for parking, leave their locks at home, arrive feeling refreshed, and the service eliminates haphazard parking of bikes on sidewalks where they can interfere with pedestrian access. MCBC’s 2007 valet bike parking sponsor is Marin Sanitary Service.

Bicycling is inexpensive, supports local business by bringing customers right to their doors, relieves traffic congestion, reduces airborne pollutants, and improves the health of the individuals who choose to ride regularly. With 40% of all national trips being two miles or less (the perfect bicycling distance), what are you waiting for? Get to your local destinations by bike! Every single bike trip contributes to reducing our environmental footprint.

The MCBC is a non-profit organization that promotes safe bicycling for everyday transportation and recreation. The organization helped Marin County be designated in 2005 as a Nonmotorized Transportation Pilot Program, implements the Transportation Authority of Marin’s national model Safe Routes to Schools program in 40 local schools, conducts a countywide Share the Road campaign, and has helped local jurisdictions to secure over $65 million in grants to improve bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
