Mt. Tam Bikes

Although they carry a full line of bicycles, Mt. Tam Bikes likes to think of themselves as “Your Mountain Bike Shop.” The shop tries to focus on smaller, local Marin makers and their products, such as Tamalpais Cycles, Marin bikes, Paul Taylor, and WTB parts; but they carry many other well-known bicycles such as Jamis, KHS, Norco, and Electra.

They like to build bikes that are personal, and to cultivate customers: help them out, get the right bike and the right fit. Says head mechanic Skye Schuchman, “We really want you to be able to come in and talk to us and get a bike that’s perfect for you: that makes you want to ride the bike.” They love to build bikes to customers’ specifications, and enjoy building offbeat bikes, which are often requested by some of their younger clientele.

All their mechanics are under 30, but they’re all veteran bike shop guys, with over 40 years combined experience. And all have competitive racing or riding experience.
