A Bicycle Odyssey
Owner Tony Tom opened A Bicycle Odyssey in 1975, when he was 19 years old. The original shop was at 2001 Bridgeway in Sausalito, and was named for the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. That original location was formerly "Mom's Apple Bikes," where Marin bike legends Joe Breeze and Otis Guy had worked in the early 1970s. A Bicycle Odyssey has been at its current location, 1417 Bridgeway, for eleven years.
A Bicycle Odyssey carries a full range of bikes, parts, and accessories, from basic stuff to custom frames. They are best known for their road bikes; their stock includes bikes by Ron Cooper, Bernie Mikkelsen, and local builder Paul Taylor. You can view their product line at their website, www.bicycleodyssey.com or call them at (415) 332-3050.
Custom frames and fittings are A Bicycle Odyssey specialty. They do high-quality work at reasonable rates, and are sometimes recommended by other shops for custom services. They conduct clinics for schools and provide personal repair tutorials on request.
When asked for the most important feature of his shop, Tony states, "We try to provide equal service to everyone. We try to take care of folks."
