Friends of China Camp is hosting a community meeting at China Camp Village on Saturday, October 21 at 10:30 am. We welcome everyone interested in the future of the park to come and share ideas, coffee, and snacks.
Since 2012, when Friends of China Camp took over as the park operator, the park and all picnic areas and campsites have been open every day of the year. Restrooms and other public areas have been kept clean and safe, and the daunting task of dealing with 20 years of deferred trail maintenance is being tackled by a core group of volunteers, with the support of the California State Parks Foundation. In the past year, with new employees, additional volunteers, and additional partners in the business community, Friends of China Camp is moving forward to make needed improvements and ensure a thriving park for the future.
This jewel of a park is a community asset, not an outpost of Sacramento. FOCC receives no support from the state; we reimburse the state for ranger and maintenance services and equipment. In addition to thousands of volunteer hours, it costs about $500,000 per year to run the park.
The people of Marin have embraced the park, saved it from abandonment, and are making it thrive. Every year donations help offset the $150,000 shortfall from fees. Local businesses regularly offer donated goods and services. Individuals have stepped forward to finance the purchase of new equipment, including a much needed pickup truck for our staff.
Join our community of supporters on October 21 to share ideas about keeping the park open and thriving. The $5 parking fee is waived for this event.
