Back again due to popular demand, and in the spirit of End Of The Year Top Ten Countdowns everywhere…our annual Top Ten list – each accomplishment made possible by your support!
Beginning with 20 selections by MCBC Program Directors and Staff, MCBC Members voted this past week for their favorite MCBC achievements. We now present the MCBC 2016 Top Programs and Events Countdown:

10 – Keeping Riders Out of The Creek

Working to protect natural resources along a classic MTB route, MCBC efforts led to the approval of the Cascade Canyon multi-use bridge proposal.  more…

Safe Routes to Schools education classes taught key cycling & pedestrian skills to more than 9,000 students at over 50 schools in Marin County this year. more…

8 – Valiant Valet Volunteers

Our crew of amazing MCBC Volunteers always showed up with a smile and put on a great show at each of our Signature Events! MCBC Bike Valets wrangled over 2,900 bikes this year! We want to send a huge “thank you!” to Bill Kern, our Bike Parking Coordinator. Bill and his loyal volunteers “came early, stayed late, worked a second shift…or a third” to care for your treasured rides! more…

7 – Making Rides Safer

As part of a continuing partnership with the California Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies, MCBC efforts to ensure safe behavior on Marin’s roadways produced results. Riders have provided critical feedback through our Road Incident Report Form, while quick actions from other road users resulted in arrests following an attack on cyclists in West Marin. more…

6 – Keeping SMART On Track

Following the agreements of last year, MCBC kept the SMART Pathway 2nd to Andersen Segment moving through the sometimes confusing funding process – pushing for the allocation of regional funds and ensuring that the project advances toward construction. more…

5 – SMART Part Deux – Ensuring Bike Parking

Widespread pressure from MCBC and Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition staff and members held SMART accountable – obtaining agreement to install additional bike parking at rail stations as recommended by their own published internal studies. more…

4 – Safe Routes Reduce Traffic!

Over 14,000 Safe Routes to Schools students “travel green” on a daily basis in the county, saving more than three million parent car trips in 2016. more…

3 – FIVE New Trails in Marin!

MCBC worked with land managers through the Road and Trails Management Plan to identify off-road connections and routes to be developed or expanded through change-in-use proposals. This resulted in five new trail segments now adopted and open to bikes. more…

2 – Opening the Tunnel!

Efforts to reopen the Alto Tunnel reached another milestone, when the Marin County Board of Supervisors authorized the Alto Tunnel Geotechnical and Structural Investigation Study. This study will evaluate the tunnel’s interior and provide cost estimates as we work to gain bicycle and pedestrian access. MCBC applauds the neighborhood outreach efforts of Friends of Alto Tunnel toward this shared goal. more…

1 – Bridging the Gap!

Following countless hours of effort, the Central Marin Ferry Connector Bridge extended the North-South Greenway linking the Cal Park Tunnel to the Larkspur Ferry and southern Marin over six lanes of East Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. With speeches and dedications, officials cut the ribbon to officially open the span. Countless cyclists and pedestrians now enjoy safe and convenient access across the roadway each day. more…
